🦌 TAG TRACKER // Idaho Mule Deer 2025 — Better Days Ahead

IDFG’s latest report shows fawn survival at 58 % — a touch above average — and a 30 % harvest jump from 2023 to 2024. Mild winters helped, but recovery still varies by region.

  • Southeast ID saw top survival numbers, while Unit 39 lagged (~31 %).

  • Managers warn: ā€œaverage today isn’t the same as decades ago.ā€

  • Bottom line — this fall looks promising for rifle hunters across the central zones.

🐻 PREDATOR WATCH // Grizzly Charged — Hunter Survived

A big-game hunter in Caribou Targhee NF shot a male grizzly at close range after the bear charged on Oct 18. Investigators confirmed self-defense.
Key reminders from IDFG:

  • Carry bear spray and keep it accessible.

  • Hunt with a partner & communicate plans.

  • Hang meat/food 200 yd from camp and 10 ft up.

🚨 WILDLIFE CRIME // Cow Moose Shot and Left to Waste — Reward Offered

Investigators say a cow moose was illegally killed near No Business Mountain (Unit 32A) around Oct 10–12. No moose season exists there — and IDFG is asking for tips.

  • Possible felony with license revocation & restitution.

  • Reward available for credible info via Citizens Against Poaching hotline.
