🦠 EHD Hits Idaho’s Clearwater Region — What Hunters Need to Know

Hey crew —
Idaho’s Clearwater Region is seeing an outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) right as rifle season opens. It’s deadly to whitetails but poses no risk to humans. Outbreaks flare during hot, dry spells when biting midges boom — and they can reshape local herds fast.

If you’re hunting that country, learn the signs (deer near water, disoriented, swollen head or tongue) and report suspicious carcasses to IDFG.

🦌 Tag Tracker // Regional Heads-Up

Most Idaho rifle deer seasons open Oct 10 – 15 (unit-specific). Double-check your zone before you roll.

🐺 Predator Watch // Dry Weather Means Easy Kills

When water is scarce, coyotes and wolves push low. With deer movements shifting from drought + EHD, predators find easy meals in creek bottoms and hay fields.
