🏹 Western Vantage – August 18, 2025
Tag Tracker
Idaho Elk & Deer – Controlled hunt results are out. Didn’t draw? Don’t worry — a limited number of OTC tags are still available in select zones, but they’re going fast.
Wyoming Antelope – Non-resident leftover tags hit the system this week. These typically sell out in hours, so if you want in, set your alarm and get it done early.
Predator Watch
Montana Wolves – Montana FWP is considering bumping the wolf harvest quota. Final vote is expected later this month. If approved, hunters will see more statewide opportunity.
Coyotes – Ranchers in Eastern Oregon are reporting heavier calf losses after a wet spring boosted coyote numbers. Hunters in that region should be ready for strong fall calling action.
Rut Watch
Archery Elk Season is Here – By late August, most western states are opening their archery elk hunts. That means it’s time for wallows, bugles, and bulls on the move. The first week can be hit-or-miss depending on temps, but don’t underestimate those early-season bugles in cooler drainages.
